Hawaiian Orange French Toast

The journey for decadence through french toast continues, this time with a tropical flavor.

6 eggs
1.5 cups orange juice
1 cup milk
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 Tsp Vanilla

Large number of Hawaiian bread rolls, cut in half.

Todo: experiment with orange zest, honey, nutmeg, and ratios of orange juice:milk.

A Loaf of le toast.

Cinnamon raisin bread, an already exemplary breakfast food has been abused in the name of science.

14 slices of cinnamon raisin bread, or one whole loaf. (note to self: leaving out overnight turned out excellent, think about trying even farther next time.  Leave 2++ out every night before?)
6 eggs
2.5 cups of milk
2 dashes of salt
2 tbsp vanilla (note to self: could probably increase a small amount)
4 tbsp cinnamon (note to self: cinnamon on cinnamon bread.  think more next time)
1 dash nutmeg (note to self: more you fool)

1 bowl for dipping
2 cooling(dripping) racks
1 baking sheet (drip catching sheet)

1 pan, large enough to fit 2 slices
1 whole lot of butter, enough to have at least a half tablespoon between cooking pairs

Custard made night before, bread left out on cooling racks (for maximum dryage) overnight.
30 second dip, each side, transfered to converted dripping racks placed over drip catching sheet for minimum 2 minutes.
Buttered pan for each cook (fry?). 2-3 minutes each side, set on 5 (tended to be 2).  After fry (cook?) placed on dripping racks re-purposed again to cooling racks.  Once rack sufficiently filled (read: too full to fit more on comfortably without stacking) placed in over for 5-6 minutes at 350.

Immeasurable amounts of success.  Requires further study of gastro-awesomeness created.

Ravioli Baking

Replacement Lasagna ravioli baked dish has turned into something more interesting.
Early iterations all based on simple premise.  Layers of ravioli and sauce, cheese usually present even from an early stage.

As the bake evolved, things became more intricate. Introduction of greens, namely in the form of spinach, should have been an early warning indicator of things to come.
Addition of meats, usually a sausage, and ground came next.  After that, even the ravioli wasn't safe from the march of evolution.

Which lead us to today.  Mozzarella spinach ravioli in sun dried tomato and garlic sauce with layers of asparagus, bacon, cheddar/asiago, spinach, and zucchini.
While successful, I can't help but contemplate the implications of this delicious gastronomical abomination.
Where do we go from here?

Previous notes

Gluten free ravioli: tasty, but not as solid as advertised.
In trial 1, one or more ravioli decided it's insides belonged in the water. Looks messy.  Note to self: use larger pot.
Trial 2 of fake ravioli, again insides not belonging where they should.  Pasta sauce congeals more than anticipated.  Take careful note of what's being bought next time.  Note to self: Pot too large, overcompensation can lead to issues.

Bought broccoli.  Didn't anticipate a lack of steamer to cook said broccoli.
Enter Sciencesteam rig.
1 pot containing water producing steam
1 metal strainer
1 glass lid large enough to fit most of the way up the steamer.
2 heads of cut broccoli.

Trial 1: Success.  Broccoli turned out exactly the way it should.  Will definitely have to use rig again.  Note to self: make note of cooking time for use in future.
Trial 2: Near Success.  Using pot so large bottom of steamer has thin layer of water.  Regrettable, but no other cooking options, also plan to use pot to boil pasta.  Note to self: skimping on equipment leads to inferior outcome, suck it up and wash a dish or two if necessary.

Mushrooms turn out successful.  Touch of butter, and slices of mushrooms, maybe a dash of salt or garlic = Success.
All trials of mushrooms have yielded successful and delicious results.
Will have to cook more.  Note to self: keep an eye out for sales on bulk mushrooms.  They will get eaten.  They will be delicious.

First time science-ing baconeggs at new place, regret not having rubber spatula.  While using inferior utensils, result still resounding Success.
Note to self: get larger variety of spices.  Not just for baconeggs.

Day 1 of recorded history

First attempt at marinating chicken.  Success.
Note to self: 2 chicken breasts not enough for leftovers.  Larger bags purchased today may help with marinating more than 2 at a time.

Broccoli is turning out to be a favorite to cook.  Might be eating it too much.  Three times in 5 nights, and have leftovers with it for eating at lunch.  Also have leftovers of straight broccoli from tonight, will probably eat tomorrow.
Steamscience rig works again.  Have to remember to use pots that aren't as wide. 5 minutes in rig might be a touch too little for larger pieces.  Note to self: equalize size of broccoli better, just came across undercooked crunchy bit.

Cutting a pineapple was easier than anticipated.  Cutting a pineapple with any sort of cut on finger leads to instant regret.
Note to self: Costco, while inexpensive and generally good, not the greatest source of tasty pineapple. $1 might just be too low for an entire pineapple.

Rice.  Expands more than anticipated, will have to experiment with smaller amounts in future.

Teriyaki chicken with rice and pineapples with a side of broccoli: Success.
After Consumption note: possibly too salty.  Follow recommended 4 hours of chicken marinade instead of near 24 in future.  Tongue still burning.
